Adriana has only been with us a short time, but she has been familiar with Pica’s for a while as a friend of Lalo’s, our front of house manager.

Personally, I shy away from hiring friends and family because of the possible complications involved. But with our hispanic employees it is a blessing - a huge network of friends and family to pull from.

We are happy to have Adriana here as we get to know her. It’s a shame she must wear a mask because she has a super sweet smile that warms you up.

PICA’S

”I’ve been working at Pica’s for a month. I like the environment and that was the reason why I wanted to work here - it’s something I always noticed as a customer. I also like that a lot of the people that I work with are part of my culture - it makes it feel more like home to me and I know the food well!”

BACKGROUND

”I identify as Mexican-American. My parents and my older sister immigrated here a few months before I was born and I’m so grateful for the opportunities that I have had because of that decision. I had to adjust to being a part of a two different cultures - as I grew up, I realized that sometimes people had judgements and prejudice against my background. That has only strengthened my pride and my voice in speaking up for myself and others facing the same injustices. Because of my parents’ support, I’ve been able to pursue higher education and find myself surrounded by women in similar situations through my multi-cultural sorority at CU Boulder.”

HHM

”I think having grown up in a Mexican household, Hispanic Heritage Month is a time where my culture is recognized and appreciated by others. It feels good to be highlighted by people and businesses during this time as a part of the community. For me, I take pride in my background all year round and it’s engrained in who I am.”
